Start off by buying a PS2 swap magic 3.6+ to match your PS2 region. (Note: This guide is for a Slim PS2, Ill add links below for the FAT old modle PS2`s)
USA / NTSC Swap Magic:
www.divineo.cn/cgi-bin/div-cn/ps2-slimswapusa
PAL / UK Swap Magic
www.divineo.cn/cgi-bin/div-cn/ps2-slimswappal
JAP / JA Swap Magic
www.divineo.cn/cgi-bin/div-cn/ps2-slimswapjap
(NOTE: No, You dont need a PAL swap magic to play pal games, by PAL it means that its compatable with a pal / united kingdom PS2 modle, So if you wonna play Japanese and PAL ps2 games and backups, then you only need an NTSC / USA swap magic for your USA ps2)
Once you have your swap magic to use on your PS2 flip it over and pull the 6 screwcovers away from the system and unscrew the 6 screws.
Picture of the screwholes:
After that, Carefully lift away the top half of the PS2 exposeing its insides, Be sure not to hold it upside down as you may rip the screw out that holds down the electronics to the caseing`s bottom half (its located near the controller ports if you have some reason you wish to take it out from its case completelly)
Above shot of my slimsilver with its top off:
2nd shot showing off its chrome innards (appearances may vary slightly, but not so much that you wont be able to tell what to do)
Start off by removing the disc stopper that stops the disc from spinning when you open the disc`s lid, You can see a screw located on the underside of it with a spring attached to it, Unscrew it completelly and manuver the piece out of the PS2 and discard it (or keep if you want a memorial of it)
Underside of where it used to be screwed in:
Above side of it removed:
After that, look in the mid-back of the PS2 and youll see a small switch that is pressed down when you close the PS2 lid (one of two of them)
Electrical Tape method:
Plain and simple! Tape it down and then close it up, It WILL come untaped fairly easially, So I suggest the hot gluegun method.
Hot Glue Gun method:
This ones just as simple, But its hard to come by a hot glue gun, and you CAN get burned by it.
Take the gluegun and dab abit of hot glue on the switch, then take Tissue paper and lair it back and forth several times so you dont get burned, then press down the hot glue and hold it for about 10-20 seconds to have it stay, then remove the excess tissue, and repeat one time, this should hold down the switch.
After completeing your method, Reach over to the 2nd switch located at the frontright of the PS2 on a semi-seperate circutboard attached with a thin ribbon (DO NOT PULL IT OUT!)
By pressing the small switch facing towards the front of the PS2 it should turn on, and to test if the back sensor is sealed down properlly with your [ tape / glue ] then press down on the switch on top of the small peice (it is VERY tiny and black, Very delicate to be pushed down)
When its pushed down, your ps2`s lens should move around and shoot out small beam`s of red light from the lens trying to detect a game, DO NOT STARE AT IT!
If it doesnt do this, then go back to the sensor in the back and try again to make sure its locked in the pressed down position premenentlly.
Now its time to seal it up so you can continue with working on it.
Once your PS2 is completelly sealed and ready, Time to get back to tapeing / glueing. Remember that little sensor you pressed down to test if the one in the back was done and ready? Well now its time to seal it down too!
Like last time, You can either use a small peice of tape or you can use hot glue, just make sure the tape not only covers the sensor, but the area around so it stays there.
NOTE: For those using hot glue to seal it down, Be sure to snip off the little peice in the top of the lid that presses down that sensor so it doesnt have the lid warped and pressed down incorrectlly with one corner still raised.
Finished picture of the 2nd sensor sealed down:
And there you go!
To use swap magic, You simple put in the swap magic disc with the disc tray open, then when it stops spinning after the PS2 is on and it says ''Load Program'' you take the disc out and switch it with your import / backup, and then change the TV`s Hz output to match your oun.
USA = 60hz output signal (NTSC)
UK = 50hz output signal (PAL/UK/other regions)
Japan = 60hz outpit signal (NTSC)
USA tv`s can only play on NTSC signals, Meaning if you have a PAL game, you have to change it to NTSC, Anything else you can leave video mode on normal.
